Al-shabaab Stages several attacks in Beledweyne tonight after today’s deady attack .

Mogadishu (Harar24) – Residents in Beledweyne have been unable to sleep tonight as the sounds of gunshots still rage in the town. After today’s devastating attack at noon Al-Shabaab fighters have poured into the city for a second time, this time at night, attacking several bases in the city.

Tonight’s attack comes after a previous attack carried out by Al-Shabaab during the day. The central police station in Beledweyne was targeted by a car loaded with explosives which detonated at the police station, this was followed by Al-Shabaab fighters storming the building and killing those present.

Al-Shabaab’s military spokesman, Abu Mus’ab Abdulaziz said that Al-Shabaab were behind the attacks, he said: “We killed eighteen Djiboutian soldiers and twenty three Somali soldiers.” “Whenever we get a chance to attack anytime, we’re going to do it. There’s an enemy in the land. This is our country. This is our land. We have to banish them.” He further added.

According to a senior Somali army officer four Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the attack today.

The attacks that were carried out today and tonight did not come as a surprise to residents as Beledweyne has been the scene of several attacks carried out by Al-Shabaab over the past weeks and months.

Just last month Al-Shabaab carried out an explosion in café that is frequented by AMISOM soldiers.

Residents whom our reporter spoke to said that fighting went on even in the night. “The fighting didn’t decrease or die down, it just kept going and going. We’re hearing so many explosions and gunfire from many areas in the city” a resident told our reporter over the phone.
