To impeach the Prime Minister or not?
Mogadishu (Harar24) – For months now there had been constant talk about the fate of Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon and his supposed resignation. However suspicions were confirmed when the Somali President Hasan Mahmud requested the resignation of Prime Minister Shirdon, both had been and still are at odds.
Today Somalia’ parliament held a meeting attended by Somalia’s MPs regarding a motion to impeach the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister announced that he was pleased with the involvement of the parliament to end the disagreement between him and the President. Despite today’s meeting however, the debate regarding the motion was postponed until tomorrow.
A rift occurred between the President and the Prime Minister, which according to many sources is due to a disagreement regarding the formation of a new cabinet that was put forth by the Prime Minister to the President, which the President rejected.
Rifts and disagreements in Somalia’s parliament are reoccurring incidents that many governments fell prey to, and this one seems to be falling for the same prey.
