Atleast 10 people killed as deadly car bomb hits Bosaaso
Mogadishu (Harar24) – A car bomb targeted a convoy carrying staff belonging to the private military company, Saracen International, inside the city of Bosaso on Thursday.
At least 10 people have been confirmed dead so far while more than 20 have been confirmed as injured in the attack which targeted staff from Saracen International who were travelling with armed escorts inside the coastal city of Bosaso.
It’s suspected that the armed Islamist rebel group Al-Shabaab is behind the attack. The Islamist rebel group Al-Shabaab are known to have carried out similar attacks in the autonomous region of Puntland, the most recent being last month’s attack on Bosaso ‘s central prison.
Witnesses who spoke with Harar24 over the phone said there had been a “large number of casualties, with bodies scattered everywhere”, following the attack today in Bosaso .
According to witnesses, following the explosion Puntland’s anti-terror unit closed down the area of the explosion and began shooting haphazardly, a common occurrence in the hope of possibly hitting remaining Al-Shabaab rebels.
Saracen International, is known to have a presence in Somalia, especially in the autonomous region of Puntland where it’s involved in training certain elements of the security forces and the PIA. It has also been heavily involved in oil exploration in Puntland. According to several sources, staff belonging to Saracen had been killed, but no official figure had been released yet.
