Suspected Al-Shabaab members storm KDF bases in the city of Afmadow

Suspected Al-Shabaab members storm KDF bases in  the city of Afmadow

Mogadishu (Harar24) – Last night Afmadow witnessed a heavy a battle as suspected Al-Shabaab fighters stormed KDF bases on the outskirts of the town in the Lower Jubba region.

 

Residents in Afmadow reported that units from the Al-Shabaab carried out several coordinated attacks targeting the KDF bases located just outside the town.

 

Locals who spoke with our correspondent in the area said the fighters attacked the town around 10pm and the sounds of the heavy machine guns were heard all over the area.”We heard a lot of gunfire, it seems like it was machine gun fire. This all happened as we were getting ready to sleep” a resident told our reporter over the phone.

 

Our lower Jubba correspondent also confirmed with residents that Al-Shabaab fighters shelled the KDF bases with mortars during the attack.

 

The exact number of casualties as a result of the fighting is not known but according to our correspondent in the Lower Jubba region sources within Al-shabaab claim they have killed up to six KDF soldiers during the attack last night.

 

Spokespersons for both parties could not be reached for more information regarding last night’s attacks.

 

This comes a midst a time where the Al-Shabaab movement have been repeatedly targeting KDF Forces in Lower Jubba, Last night’s attack coincided with another attack  targeting KDF bases inside Kismayo’s airport, also in the Lower Jubba region.
