NYPD report suggests that Westgate attackers might have escaped

Harar24 (Mogadishu) – Almost two months after the agonizing Westgate mall attack, a new meticulous report released by the NYPD gives an analysis of the Westgate report, including the fact that the perpetrators might have escaped.

The thirty-four page report gives a thorough insight of the events that occurred during the four day siege of the mall, which left sixty seven people dead and two hundred wounded, most of them being non-Muslims, as the perpetrators “made some conscious effort to just target non-Muslims during the attack”, like the report put it.

Contrary to earlier claims by the Kenyan Interior Minister that between ten to fifteen attackers were present at the mall, the report supports later and more correct claims that only four attackers were present. Although almost two months have elapsed since the attacks, the identities of the perpetrators still remain unknown with most research only providing vague identifications and nom de guerres, except for one the men who is believed to be a Norwegian national of Somali descent by the name of Hassan Dhuhulow.

The report speaks of a lack of cohesion between certain segments of law enforcement and the military, disorganization and confusion, which eventually lead to the killing of one officer and injury of a team commander by friendly fire. On top of that the mall usually only employs contract security personnel who carry no weapons, and according to the report security officers have had a history of being lenient in security checks.

However what’s most interesting of all is that despite claims by the Kenyan Defense Forces that all four attackers had been killed, according to the report not a single body belonging to the attackers have been retrieved or recovered or any remains, and the slightest hope of when something was retrieved it was identified as beef from one of the stores in the mall. The report seems to be inclined to the fact that the attackers might have escaped through an unknown route after their last sighting on CCTV, how true that is still remains a mystery.
