Somalia appoints a new Prime Minister
Harar24 (Mogadishu) – Somalia has appointed a new Prime Minister after the removal of the previous Prime Minister after losing a no-confidence vote last week.
The newly appointed Prime Minister Abdiwali Sheekh Ahmed, has a rich history in the economy & business sector, but relatively little in politics, has worked for IGAD, served as an economist at the Islamic Development Bank and also served as an advisor to COMESA.
The decision to appoint Abdiwali Ahmed as Prime Minister was reached today by Somalia’s President Hassan Mahmud after a series of consultations and meetings with close aids and associates.
Also running for the post of Prime Minister and hoping to be appointed were Abdiwali Gonjeh a deputy prime minister at one time and acting Prime Minister after Shirdon’s ousting and Hussein Halane who served as the minister of finance at one point of time. However they were beaten by Abdiwali Sheekh Ahmed.
Abdiwali Sheekh Ahmed, who hails from the Bardhere region of Somalia, will be the sixth Prime Minister of Somalia within the span of six year, a quite perturbing figure which gives insight to the unruly & disruptive nature of Somali politics and Somalia’s parliament.
