Government troops clash in Janale
Mogadishu (Harar24) – Rival clans within the Somali Armed Forces clash yet again, this time however on the outskirts of Janale in the Lower Shabelle region. Reports from Janale, indicate that at least 15 people have been killed and more than 15 injured most of the casualties being soldiers.
Witnesses told Harar24 that the fighting began yesterday after clan militas within the government troops coming from Awdhigle attacked the area near Janale prompting fighting from another local milita in the area.
People whom our correspondent spoke to said they were really worried as local militias who are loyal to one of the Somali government commanders in Lower Shabelle during yesterdays attack used heavy machine guns killing a number of civilians.
“They have attacked us in the name of the Somali Armed forces , we were just doing our farming” said one local resident near Janale. “We will defend our property this is pure tribalism!” added the resident.
Another resident who spoke over the phone on the condition of anonymity called Somali government officials in Mogadishu to intervene in what he called “the expulsion of an entire tribe from the area.”
Until now no one has started any mediation efforts between the rival clan militias with in the armed forces who have been fighting in the region recently.
The infighting between militias within the armed forces has been a reoccurring event ravaging people’s lives, leading to disastrous results and tarnishing the name of the government. People whom we spoke to complained of the undisciplined behavior of soldiers who participate in these conflicts, which has led many of the residents of Janale to flee the town for their own safety.
