Al-Shabaab vows to intensify attacks & change of strategy
Mogadishu (Harar24) – Heavy clashes occurred last night at the city of Beledweyne as Ethiopian bases in the outskirt of the city came under attack.
Reports claim that fighters belonging to the Al-Shabaab movement carried out several attacks targeting the Ethiopian bases located just outside the town.
According to locals who spoke to our correspondent the fight which lasted more than an hour and saw the use of heavy weapons. However, as the attack occurred at night the the exact casualties and details are not fully known.
In other news, at least 7 people were killed Wednesday night as Al-Shabaab members attacked an AMISOM base in KM-60. Residents said Al Shabaab militants attacked the AMISOM base in the area which resulted in a firefight breaking out.
Resident, who talked with Harar24 over the phone said that men belonging to Al-Shabaab attacked the area around 9:00PM and started firing heavy weapons at AMISOM bases.
This comes as As Al-Shabaab’s military spokesman while talking to the media this week said they have changed their fighting strategy from “hit and run” to large scale operations.
“We want to tell everyone from now on we will completely take over and destroy were we attack just like we did at Janale’s Police station this week’ said Abu Mus’ab AbdiAziz, the military spokesman.
It was earlir this week when dozens of Al-Shabaab members attacked the city of Janale and completely destroyed the main police station, while setting the station aflame before leaving the area.
