3 years after Al-Shabaab’s retreat, Mayor Tarsan Vows their complete removal from Mogadishu
Mogadishu (Harar24) – The era of of Al-Shabaab attacks in the Somali capital is over the troubled city’s mayor Mohamud Nur Tarsan said yesterday.
While visiting Daynile district, the mayor spoke with residents and told them to stay away from assisting Al-Shabaab or sheltering them .
Tarsan told the residents in Dayniile: “People in Mogadishu call the residents of Dayniile “Al-Shabaab sympathizers” and that should stop”. “They, Al-Shabaab cannot be successful if they don’t receive the cooperation and the help of some residents” Added the mayor referring to Daynile residents.
Mayor Tarsan further requested of ministers and members of parliament to live in public areas of Mogadishu instead of the heavily fortified areas close to the Presidential palace, as the end of Al-Shabaab was nigh and Mogadishu is becoming safer.
Al-Shabaab withdrew from the city three years ago but still stage attacks inside the city on AMISOM and government bases.
Some analysts say some districts and parts of Mogadishu are known to host members of Al-Shabaab who stage attacks from those areas.
