Former district commissioner killed in Mogadishu after Bomb planted in his car exploded.

Mogadishu (Harar24) – A government official  has been killed in the capital Mogadishu last night when a bomb planted below his car exploded at the Tarabunka area in Mogadishu.

 

Abdulahi Mohamed Siyad also known as “Jabeey”, served as the Lafoole district commissioner until he was replaced, at the time of his death no one knew what his exact position was within the Federal goverment. His family confirmed to Harar24 that the bomb planted under his car beforehand exploded as he drove near the Tarabunka junction in the center of Mogadishu last night

 

Witnesses in the area said two other people were injured in the attack, one is speculated to be Farah Jareer, an official within the Somali intelligence services, the other victim’s identity remains unknown

.

“We suddenly heard a big blast as the car passed us” said one witness. “It looked like something inside the car exploded, we came rushing and we saw one person dead and twp injured” added the witness.

 

Lafole town which  lies 25km south from Somalia’s capital Mogadishu and is situated in the Lower Shabelle Province has had it’s fair share of attacks by Al-Shabaab militants just like other towns and cities in the Lower Shabelle.

 

In other developments today, five people were killed today as a result of an IED attack. The dead included two officers including Col. Adan Shekow. The attack occurred as the men were sitting in a gathering chewing the traditional stimulant known as khat.

 

Until now, no one has claimed responsibility for both explosion, however Al-Shabaab is believed to behind the attacks.
