Mogadishu under constant attack, while senior intelligence officers blame residents for the violence
Mogadishu (Harar24) – Heavily armed Al-Shabaab forces attacked an AMISOM base located at the now defunct perfume factory in Mogadishu’s Huriwaa district last night.
Residents nearby the base claimed that the Al-Shabaab militants attacked both the AMISOM and government troop bases at last night with heavy weapons including shoulder launch missiles, which the residents said took them back them to the nights when Ethiopian troops where based there.
“Late into the night we heard the sound of heavy gun fire just burst open along with explosions and also a lot of shouting & people screaming Allahu Akbar ” a resident told a Harar24 over the phone from SOS area in Huriwaa.
This comes at a time were intense violence has been reigning the capital this week; despite that government officials blamed Mogadishu residents for the increased violence in the city. According to security officials who spoke to the local media “Mogadishu residents are not cooperating with the security sector of the city” and “that no one wants to report Al-Shabaab fighters in the city” rather they were being “harbored”.
“We have provided them with a number to call but they don’t want to work with us “ a senior Somali intelligence officer told Harar24. “It’s hard to secure the city when the residents don’t want to work along with you; they are to blame for all this violence”.
Mogadishu has been subject to intense attacks carried out by Al-Shabaab fighters ever since their withdrawal from the capital, however the militant group has recently been intensifying their brutal attacks.
