Al-Shabaab’s Deadly night raid in Bula-burde leaves dozens dead

Mogadishu (Harar24) – A heavy explosion rocked the city of Bulo-burde where after Al-Shabaab fighters stormed the city engaging the recently arrived Djiboutian forces in a fierce gun battle which began at midnight and lasted until the early hours of the morning.

The explosion is believed to have been caused by car bomb which was detonated by the driver as he approached the popular hotel ‘Amalo where several high ranking Djiboutian & Somali commanders were believed to have been residing as they turned part of the hotel in to an operations room. The explosion was immediately followed by heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters storming the hotel and swarming the city which initiated an intense gun battle between the Islamists and the combined Djiboutian-Somali forces present in the city.

Several sources have stated that the death toll is believed to be in the dozens, including high ranking Somali & Djiboutian forces such as the Head of Military operations in Hiran for the Somali forces Col. Mohamed Amin Jesow. However, according to Al-Shabaab’s official military spokesman “over thirty Djiboutian & Somali apostate forces where killed and  more than eighty injured”.

On the other hand, according to Yusuf Daboged, a Somali official & former governor of Hiran province, who was believed to have been in the hotel attack and injured, only twelve soldiers had been killed in the attack while twenty others were injured in fending off the Al-Shabaab attack last night.

This attack comes amidst a series of attacks perpetrated by Al-Shabaab fighters inside the city of Bulo-burde after withdrawing from it several days ago when Djiboutian forces arrived at the city.

Al-Shabaab’s military spokesman Sheikh Abdulaziz Abu Mus’ab boasted of a having trapped the Djiboutian forces inside Bulo-burde and of a change of strategy whereby “the enemy will be bled to death”, this could be very well the beginning the fulfillment of such a threat.
