Al-Shabaab praises 60-year old Norwegian fighter who stormed AMISOM base in Bulo-burde
Mogadishu (Harar24) – In an exclusive interview broadcasted on Radio Al-Andalus one of the attackers at Hotel ‘Amalo in Bulo-burde spoke with the Al-Shabaab radio station Al-Andalus moments before he detonated his car at the hotel where several Somali & Djibouti commanders were believed to have been staying.
The man identified as Abdullahi Ahmed Abdulle by the radio station, aged 60, was more commonly known amongst his fellow fighters as “Habib Al-Muhajir”, who was a Norwegian citizen of Somali origin.
“You have seen the difference in the city when the mujahidin were ruling it and today after it has been taken over by the enemy. For the past six years we haven’t seen anyone woman being raped, or anyone being robbed, or any car being hijacked, or any tribe fighting another, whereas now you see all that occurring” said Abdulle while addressing the people of Bulo-burde and advising them to leave.
The attack which occurred two nights ago is believed to have left at least 30 Djiboutian and Somali soldiers according to various sources, while also killing several high ranking commanders who were leading the offense against Al-Shabaab in the region.
According to sources within Al-Shabaab such attacks as the one carried out by Abdulle are hard to attain, and even when one is listed in what Al-Shabaab label as the “martyrdom battalions” it could take months or even years to carry out such attacks. “This is one of the most popular battalions in Al-Shabaab” a commander within Al-Shabaab who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Harar24. “These men who carry out such attacks get very intense and high quality training, contrary to the belief that they just push a button to detonate, they are trained specifically to kill as much enemies as they can. The list is ever growing” added the commander.
Attacks of this nature have been carried out by several individuals from the West & local Somalis, but Abdulle at the age of 60 broke the record two nights ago of being the eldest man to carry out such an attack amongst the ranks of Al-Shabaab. “Habib Al-Muhajir was like a grandfather figure to all of us, he has left great impact on all of us and will be greatly missed. He left a message with his attack, that this war isn’t only fought by young men, but by people of all ages and classes of society” the Al-Shabaab commander told Harar24
Not much is known regarding Norwegian fighters in the ranks of Al-Shabaab, however Abdulle is the second Norwegian fighter to be identified as an Al-Shabaab fighter apart from Hassan Abdi Dhuhulow who took part in the Westgate attack that left 60 people dead
