Ethiopian corpses displayed by Al-Shabaab after fierce fight in Galgadud

Mogadishu (Harar24) – Despite being in constant conflict with the Ethiopian forces, Al-Shabaab who usually display the corpses of their enemies haven’t released any images of Ethiopian soldiers in a long time, until two days ago.

In a heavy battle between Al-Shabaab militants and Ethiopian forces near the small town of Wabho which lasted for almost three hours, the Islamist movement claimed to have killed many Ethiopian soldiers, however the claim was only confirmed after the militants released corpses & weapons that were left behind as the Ethiopians allegedly fled the battle.

In the presence of the local residents and in the sight of the corpses, the local Al-Shabaab appointed governor of Galgadud Sheikh Hasan Ya’qub and the official Al-Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Ali Dheere delivered sermons and gave speeches, while posing for the pictures. Despite many recent claims that Ali Dheere had been killed, the Al-Shabaab spokesman proudly posed in the pictures while hoisting a black banner.

While posing with a sniper rifle left behind by the Ethiopian forces, Hasan Ya’qub exclaimed “this was just the opening statement in our fight with the Ethiopians in Galgadud”, while claiming that they defeated them in the battle and killed many Ethiopian soldiers.

According to several sources Al-Shabaab have been successful so far in resisting the recently launched offensive against them, by using a variety of military tactics such as ambushes, raids and setting up blockades in an attempt to cut off supplies. However, the militants tactics aren’t only limited to battlefield, as they are earnestly trying to win the battle of hearts and minds by trying to provide everything at their disposal to civilians living under their rule.
