Al-Shabaab condemns Kenya’s recent crackdown on Somalis

Mogadishu (Harar24) – In an interview with the Al-Shabaab affiliated radio station Al-Andalus,Sheikh Ali Mahamud Raage “Ali Dheere”, the group’s official spokesman, condemned & spoke against Kenya’s recent crackdown on Somalis in Kenya.

Ali Dheere directed his sympathetic words towards the large Somali population living in Kenya and outlined in the interview that Kenya is doing this to “humiliate” Somalis and “degrade” them, by gathering elderly, men, women & children in “concentration like” circumstances in Kasarani stadium.

Upon being asked regarding Kenya’s accusing of some of the people being Al-Shabaab and trying to weed them out Ali Dheere responded “The only connection these innocent people have with Al-Shabaab is the fact that they share the same religion and are Muslims. They are against Islam and Muslims”. “Are they suggesting that pregnant women, elderly and children are Al-Shabaab?” Ali Dheere sarcastically asked. “This shows clearly their hate for the Muslims and Islam” he added.

The Al-Shabaab spokesman said that history was repeating itself and that Kenya thinks it can get away with this like it did with the infamous Wagalla massacre. “With this treatment of Somalis, history is repeating itself and it’s as if Kenya is trying to say “We can do Wagalla again”” said the spokesman.

Enclosing, Ali Dheere sent a message to the Somali population of Kenya to aid them in their cause “to remove Kenya from Somalia”. “They are only treating this way because they know we are brethren, so come and join us in defeating this common enemy” said Ali Dheere.

This is the first time Al-Shabaab has spoken out against Kenya’s recent crackdown on Somalis, which Kenya  claims to be an operation against terrorism and to root out  Al-Shabaab from the country.
