Forces belonging to Somaliland takeover the city of Taleh in Khaatumo

Mogadishu (Harar24) – Heavily armed forces belonging to the Somaliland army stormed the city of Taleh this morning, which serves as the capital of the self-declared state of Khatumo.

According to residents the armed forces entered the city without resistance as the forces loyal to the Khatumo state abandoned the city. “There were no rounds fired & the city was taken over without any resistance” said one resident speaking on anonymity.

Somaliland’s military spokesman Col. Osman Abdullahi Si’id spoke regarding the incident and confirmed the presence of Somaliland troops in the city. “Our forces entered Taleh this morning without any confrontation” said Col Si’id. “We didn’t invade Taleh, Taleh is part of Somaliland added” Col Si’id.

The takeover of Taleh was heavily condemned by the Khatumo state who deemed the move as an “aggression” by Somaliland whose motives are “clan based”.

The Khatumo state has witnessed aggression by neighboring states of Puntland and Somaliland, both who claim Taleh and surrounding areas in Sool as rightfully belonging to them.

Taleh is known for it’s history and historic sites which served as the base for the Dervishes led by the great Somali leader Sayyid Mohammed Abdullahi Hassan, more commonly known to the West as the “Mad Mullah”, who resisted both the British and Ethiopian empires.
