Mogadishu (Harar24) – Somaliland authorities have ordered all internet service providers in Hargaisa to discontinue the web service of Haatuf & Somaliland Times news websites in Hargaisa

The director of Haatuf Newspaper, Yusuf Abdi Gabobe while talking to the media accused the Somaliland authorities of illegally shutting down its web service inside their territory after it also prevented the printing & circulation of its newspaper. ”They have shut down our internet web page and prevented it from being accessed inside Somaliland without any court approval and we condemn this” said Mr. Gabobe.

The Somaliland government is also accused of shutting down the news website known as Somaliland Times after it also ordered the discontinuation of the printing and circulation of its newspaper in Hargaisa.

Both newspapers were told they can’t publish any papers, Somaliland had accused the two newspapers of “publishing propaganda against their government.”

The Somaliland government has been accused of opposing freedom of expression & speech as it has shut down other forms of media which they might feel as going against the government. A few months back the popular Somali TV channel “Universal TV” was shut down in Somaliland after the government accused it of “defaming the president”.
