In a harsh rebuttal, Somaliland President calls Somali President “young & inexperienced”

Mogadishu (Harar24) – At a meeting with the parliament of Somaliland, the president of the self-claimed state, Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, rejected the claims of the Somali president that they “have regular contacts & exchange letters” in the strongest terms.

The rejection of these claims come more than a week after the Somali president, Hassan Sheikh Mahamud, claimed that he interfered and calmed the situation that recently occurred in Khatumo, after advicing Somaliland & Puntland to cease their aggressions against Khatumo. He further added that there was regular communication between him & president Silanyo through by means of exchanging letters.

Today however, president Silanyo said that all these claims were baseless. “I’ve lately been hearing that that the Somali president claims that we have regular contact & exchange letters”. “The only letters we have exchanged with him were those I sent congratulating him when he assumed his post. I suppose that he’s young and still new politics and perhaps took that as regular communication” said president Silanyo while clarifying the claims.

Commenting on the claims that the Somali president had a hand in calming the situation in Khatumo, the Somaliland president said: “We have not discussed anything with anyone regarding the borders of Somaliland, this is an issue for the people of Somaliland, and they’ll defend their borders till the end”.

Last month troops belonging to the government of Somaliland entered the town of Taleh in the region of Sol, briefly occupying it, which caused tension between Somaliland and Puntland. However the troops evacuated the city after pressure from the international community.
