Ethiopian embassy in Somalia raises alert level amidst fear of imminent attack
Mogadishu (Harar24) – Officials of the Ethiopian embassy in Mogadishu have claimed that the Al-Shabaab movement is planning to carry out an attack against them, amidst an alarming increase of attacks carried out by Al-Shabaab against Somali government institutions and those of her allies.
The deputy of the Ethiopian ambassador to Somalia, Jamaluddin Mustafa Omar, told the media that they are aware that the militants are planning an attack against the embassy, and therefore were taking all precautions in order to ward of any potential attack.
The Ethiopian embassy which is situated nearby the heavily guarded presidential palace in Mogadishu, is protected by specially designated Ethiopian guard unit. According to several reports and witnesses the guard unit has lately been setting up defensive posts and blockades near the embassy.
The raised alert level announced by the Ethiopian embassy comes less than a week after Al-Shabaab carried out a bloody attack on a village at the Somali-Ethiopian border, causing the death of more than forty, including twenty eight Ethiopian soldiers.
