Another car bomb targeting Somali parliament leaves several dead

Mogadishu (Harar24) – A deadly car bomb targeting the Somali parliament has left several people dead and dozens injured in yet another day where the capital struggles with security.

According to officials and eyewitness a car filled with explosives rammed into the entrance gate of the parliament building today at around midday while the parliament was preparing to hold a session. Chaos ensued after the car exploded and members of parliament were evacuated immediately, out of fear of a follow-up attack.

Reports regarding the casualties are conflicting, with the spokesman for the police claiming that four people died in the attack while seven others were injured, other reports put the death toll at twelve. However, the Al-Shabaab group who took responsibility for the attack, claimed to have killed at least thirty, amongst them two Ugandan AMISOM soldiers.

In another separate incident, gunmen gunned down two traffic policemen in a drive-by shooting in the Waberi district of Mogadishu, with the assassins driving off hurriedly according to officials.

Today’s attack on the parliament comes a little over a month after a previous attack on the parliament left more than a dozen dead. A member of parliament was also assassinated on Thursday, as the city is reaching all times low in terms of security with an increased surge of attacks, broad daylight assassinations and explosions.
