BREAKING: Somali female MP & prominent musician shot dead in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (Harar24) – One of Somalia’s most prominent female musicians and Member of Parliament Sado Ali Warsame was assassinated in drive-by shooting in Mogadishu at midday, as eyewitnesses told Harar24.

Sado Ali Warsame, a Somali-American, was travelling in her car before being intercepted by another vehicle carrying heavily armed gunmen which stopped in front of hers, then opening fully automated gun fire on her car killing her and her driver, before fleeing the scene.

“She was being a driven in a Suzuki car, it was just her and her driver as the car was passing nearby the busy Makka Al-Mukarrama road, when gunmen in another car suddenly intercepted her car and began shooting at her car with a machine gun for at least two minutes” said one of the eyewitnesses at the scene. “It seemed that they both died instantly at the scene” added the eyewitness.

The assassination was immediately claimed by the Al-Shabaab group whose military spokesman Abu Mus’ab Abdulaziz said this was part of the targeted killings of senior “apostate officials who conceded to the enemy occupation of the Muslim lands” adding that they would continue their attacks to eradicate the “apostates and their allies”.

Sado Ali Warsame was one of the most prominent female Somali singers, who’s also the holder of an American citizenship, where she arrived as a refugee after the fall of Siad Barre’s regime. Before her death she was part of the returning diaspora community who were involved in the political process in Somalia, while succeeding in winning a place as Member of the Somali Parliament last year.
