Former Islamist commander assassinated in Mogadishu
Mogadishu (Harar24) – A former Islamist, known as Ahmed Lashin, who defected from the now defunct Hizbul Islam before finally defecting from Al-Shabaab has just been assassinated in Mogadishu.
Ahmed Sheikh Muhidin “ Lashin”, who became popular in 2009 when a Hizbul Islam militia he led began fighting the then Somali government led by Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in Mogadishu. He later joined the Islamist Al-Shabaab movement along with his militia before he decided to defect from them early last year.
According to eyewitness who spoke to Harar24, Ahmed Lashin who was armed with pistol during the attack, was killed near Mogadishu’s Yaqshid district police station by armed men, who fled the scene thereafter without any interference from the police.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for his killing so far.
Ahmed Lashin’s assassination is the latest addition to a rampant spree of attacks and explosions raging in through the Somali capital, which have left many MPs, government officials, police, intelligence officers and civilians dead.
