Bari region’s Police commander killed in an Al-Shabaab attack in Bosaso
Mogadishu (Harar24) – An attack in the port city of Bosaso targeting the Police Commander of the Bari region, Col. Abdirahman Ali Abbas, left him dead alongside three others, including the head of the inland revenue, Mohammed Haji Suleiman “Ilka’asse”.
According to eyewitnesses the attack was carried out by a man wearing an explosive belt who detonated it as he came in contact with Col. Abbas at the police station. “The man caused a devastating explosion as he triggered his belt” said a witness close to the scene.
The attack was immediately claimed by the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab group, who said in a statement distributed to media outlets that: “With the blessings of Allah the Mujahideen have today carried out a successful operation targeting senior apostate officials in the Bari region of Somalia. The operation resulted in the perishing of the Police commander of the Bari region, Col. Abdirahman Abas, who was the main target, along with 3 apostates present with him”.
The group cited that the reason for attacking the Police commander as follows: “The apostate commander was targeted due to his crimes against Muslims in Bari region, having imprisoned, tortured and killed many, fulfilling thereby the orders of the Crusaders. God willingly everyone who treads his path will face a similar fate”.
The Al-Shabaab movement which has bases in the Galgala mountains on the outskirts of the town of Bosaso have carried out several attacks in Puntland, with a previous attack in March this year killing a senior Puntland military commander, Col. Jama Sa’id Afgadud, who was assigned to fighting the militants in the area.
