Director of Civil Aviation badly wounded in Al-Shabaab drive-by attack
Mogadishu (Harar24) – At least two people have been killed with two others critically injured in a drive-by shooting in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district this morning, in the second kind of attack this month.
The attack occurred as engineer Ali Mohamed Ibrahim “Madobe”, Director of Somalia’s Civial Aviation, left his house and was headed to the airport in his car, which suddenly began being followed by a vehicle with gunmen who drove next to him opening fire on his car, killing his driver and one of his body guards immediately, while seriously injuring him and his other bodyguard, according to witnesses and officials.
The attack was claimed by Al-Shabaab, stating their intended target was Mr. Madobe as part of their ongoing campaign against government officials, who they claim are “apostates”. In a similar attack last week in the same district, Al-Shabaab claimed the attack which killed the senior counter-terrorism official, Mohamed Qanuni and another individual.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, a roadside bomb targeted an AMISOM vehicle in Kismayo damaging the armored vehicle. The incident resulted in AMISOM troops opening rapid fire at the scene, which injured at least eight civilians.
