Al-Shabaab claims responsibility for deadly Koromei attack in Mandera leaving at least 36 dead

Mogadishu (Harar24)  – Al-Shabaab have claimed responsibility for yet another deadly attack in Mandera, which left at least thirty-six people dead, after the militants attacked them at a quarry near Koromei last night.

In a statement released by the group the militants said they had killed nearly forty people after attacking them at midnight. “In another successful operation carried out by the Mujahideen, nearly 40 Kenyan crusaders met their demise after a unit from the SalehNabhan brigade raided them in the midnight hours of Monday at Koromei, on the outskirts of Mandera” the statement which was distributed to media outlets read.

The group cited the attack was to serve “as a response to Kenya’s occupation of Muslim lands and their ongoing atrocities therein, such as the recent airstrikes on Muslims in Somalia which caused the death of innocent Muslims and the destruction of their properties and livestock, as well as the continued suffering of Muslims in Mombasa”.

After justifying their attack the group vowed it would “persist to defend our land and our people” from what they deemed as Kenya’s “aggression” and stated that they would “do whatever necessary to defend our Muslim brethren suffering from Kenya’s aggression”.

This attack comes less than two weeks after a previous attack by the militants in Mandera left at least twenty-eight people dead, while the Kenyan government claimed to have killed a hundred of the attackers.
