Large Eid celebrations held in janale town recently captured by Al-Shabaab from AMISOM troops
Mogadishu (Harar24) –Large Eid celebrations were held today in Al-Shabaab controlled territories in south and central Somalia where the public joined in the celebrations.
One of these territories is the recently captured town of Jannaale around 100 km away from Mogadishu where locals joined the Eid prayers held in an open area, as the Al-Shabaab movement who controls the area believes this practice to be closer to Islamic teachings.
According to residents , prayers were led by the Al-Shabaab leader of the Lower Shabelle region known as, Abu Abdullah. After prayers he delivered a speech praising the stability and security that Al-Shabaab has brought to regions under their control. “We praise Allah for the security and safety here that others are unable to enjoy”.
Abu Abdallah also boasted the group’s recent offence against AMISOM troops in lower shabelle saying ” Your mujahideen sons have liberated many towns in this region including this town that we are holding our Eid prayer today”.
We managed to speak with some residents of Jannaale town who expressed their happiness at the arrival of Eid over the phone. “We’ve been waiting days for these moments. These are days of happiness and delight for all of us”. One local resident said.
When asked about the presence of Al-Shabaab he said: “its bit safer now , unlike before when AMISOM and government troops use to come under consistent attacks by Al-Shabaab.”
This Eid gathering in Jannaale town by AlShabaab comes less than a month after heavily armed fighters belonging to the group overrun AU military base in the town and killed more than 50 UPDF troops .
