Police warn of Al-Shabaab regrouping, asks Kenyans to be vigilant

NAIROBI: Police have issued a warning of a possible terror attack in Nairobi, North Eastern and Coast, and have advised Kenyans be on high alert during the ongoing rains.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said: “Available information indicates that Al-Shabaab could be mobilising in Somalia and may take advantage of the rainy season to infiltrate through our borders and stage attacks in North Eastern and the Coastal regions as well as in Nairobi.”

Mr Boinnet directed that all vehicles, whether owned by the government, parastatals or are private, seeking to access public places be subjected to thorough search.

This comes just days after police provided details of suspected terrorists who intend to carry out attacks. They are Shamim Wanjiru Hussein, her husband Omar Patroba Juma, Omar Owiti, Ramadhan Kioko and former footballer Anwar Yogan Mwok.

He however assured Kenyans that security agencies were doing everything to safeguard the country from attacks. He called upon the public to exercise extra caution at all times and report promptly anything that is out of the ordinary.

Boinnet urged Kenyans to cooperate with security agencies and private security guards.
