Puntland security forces shut down Golis telecommuncations offices
Bosaso (Harar24) – Reports are indicating that armed troops loyal Abdirahman Farole the head of the autonomous state of Puntland have stormed the buildings of the biggest telecommunication company in Puntland, Golis telecommunication.
The two offices which are located in Bosaso and Garowe were taken over earlier this morning by armed forces after closing off all roads leading to the buildings. The forces which took over the building are believed to be security forces who take their orders directly from Farole who has been leading the autonomous state for almost five years.
It is speculated that this incident is linked to Ali Haji Warsame, the former chairman of Golis telecommunications in Puntland who resigned from his position a few days ago. Warsame who was not present at the buildings, is preparing to run for elections, a move which has state leader Farole alarmed.
Relatives of employees and civilians inside the Golis telecommunications told our correspondent that they are worried and fear for the lives of their loved ones as the fate of those inside the buildings remain unknown.
Puntland which is located in north eastern Somalia, declared itself an autonomous state in 1998, seven year later after the civil war in Somalia broke out. Unlike Somaliland it does not seek secession from Somalia and still considers itself part of Federal Republic of Somalia.
