Car ablaze inside the Turkish embassy in Mogadishu this afternoon
Mogadishu (Harar24) – A car has been found engulfed in flames inside a car park in the Turkish embassy in Mogadishu located in the Hodan district this afternoon. The flame which’s causes still remain unknown damaged three others surrounding cars and part of the embassy, eye witnesses tell reporters.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the incident which occurred around sunset and authorities are still investigating whether it was an attempted attack or not. The Turkish embassy is one of the very few embassies operating in Somalia which has previously suffered attacks from Al-Shabaab.
In July a van with explosives went off outside the embassy claiming 6 lives, the Turkish embassy said two of its employees were injured in the attack. No casualties have been confirmed in today’s flame as of yet, also the cause and the severity of the damage is still unknown.
Turkey is attempting to create a greater diplomatic presence in Somalia and the region in general. In 2011 Prime Minister Erdogan was the first non-African leader to visit Somalia since the fall of the regime of Siad Bare two decades ago.
