Robbery in Bosaso’s gold market.
Bosaso (Harar24) – Today three stores selling gold based in Bosaso’s gold market were robbed. Eyewitnesses claim the two men armed with pistol carried out the robbing and that a store owner was killed in the robbery.
A store owner whose store is opposite one of robbed stores said that the robbery occurred around 1.30 PM, a time when not many people are around and the streets are quiet. She said that the two men broke into the store in a very quite manner, once inside they told the owner not to move or make any noise.
“One of the men had half of his face covered whereas the other one’s face was exposed. They were carrying pistols, they made their way into the store and told the lady who owned the store not to move or speak. As they started smashing the displays the woman screamed, this is when they opened fire on her and she died as a result. They made their way with most of the gold” she further added.
It’s not unusual for armed robbery or heist to happen in the autonomous region of Puntland. Garowe & Galkacyo recently witnessed armed violence at the hands of the Puntland security forces themselves, when they by force took over the headquarters of Golis telecommunications based in both cities.
The worth of gold stolen in today’s incident cannot be verified, but it’s thought to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
