Heavy fighting in Kismayo as KDF attacked twice last night
Kismayo (Harar24) – Last night’s silence was broken as Al-Shabaab fighters carried out two attacks against the Kenyan forces based in Kismayo.
According to our correspondent, the sounds of explosions were heard all over the southern city as the Kenyan forces based in the airport shelled the city attempting to hit the positions of the insurgents who attacked under the guise of the night. Locals report being terrified and spending the night sleepless as shells were landing at different sites.
Despite last night’s battles being heavy, casualties could not be independently verified. According to our correspondent casualties were present on both sides, but it remains a mystery as neither side have commented on the attack.
The attack follows a string of attacks carried recently in Kismayo by the Al-Shabaab movement. Having been pushed out of Kismayo, the insurgents still remain adamant on attacking Kenyan forces and have threatened to further their attacks on Kenyans, even outside Somali soil.
The attack comes a day after two Al-Shabaab members were killed in a drone strike, one who according to the Pentagon was a person of interest and a highly trained explosives expert.
