Universal TV reporter shot in Mogadishu this morning.
Mogadishu (Harar24)-A local Somali journalist was shot and injured today by unknown gunmen in the capital city of Mogadishu as he left his home for work, witnesses and media reports said.
Somali Journalist Maxamed Maxamud, also known as Tima-Cadde was shot in a drive by shooting while he was driving at a intersection in Wadajir District in Mogadishu. Residents in the area are reporting that armed men shot his car while he was driving near his house.
Maxamed Maxamud (Tima-cadde) was rushed to hospital after he was shot several times by armed men as he drove his car in the district of Wadajir.
“Reporter Maxamed Tima-Cadde was shot by a group of men armed with pistols as he headed to work,” a local reporter told Harar24. Tima-Cadde worked as a reporter for Universal TV .
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the shooting of the journalist. Similarly none of the previous attacks on the journalists were claimed by anyone. The Somali government accuses the Islamist Al-Shabaab group of targeting the journalists.
International and local media watchdogs consider the war torn Horn of Africa country as one of the worst places for media to operate, this is proved by the fact that last year in Somalia eighteen journalists were killed and so far this year seven were killed, mostly of whom were killed in Mogadishu.
