US drone targets Al-Shabaab members in Somalia
Jilib (Harar24) – Two men believed to be of Somali origin belonging to the Al-Shabaab movement have been killed in what is believed to have been a drone strike.
The attack occurred at around 1:30pm local time while the men were travelling in their car around the Haram area close to the town of Jilib in the Middle Jubba region. There have been several drone attacks in Somalia in the recent years, where by high ranking Al-Shabaab leaders have often been targeted and killed.
Our correspondent spoke to local villagers around the area. A villager elder said that he’d heard a loud explosion. “I heard a loud explosion; I’ve never heard anything like it in my life. I then saw black smoke rise to the sky.” Another added that he’d heard a whistling sound like noise followed by the explosion.
Other locals who ventured close to the scene of the attack describe that the vehicle didn’t have much of it remaning. However, according to them a little while after Al-Shabaab members came to the area, closed it off from the public and took the remnants. It’s also believed that remnants of two Ak-47’s were taken by Al-Shabaab.
